Ecological TankEXPLANATION

  • Concept

    Ecological tank is a hollow concrete casted unit with openings on the surface. It is designed to provide a habitat for aquatic creatures when apply in the water. And for application above the watertable, soil can be filled into the hollow space for vegetatve purpose.

  • Application

    Waterfront access areas, such as river and pond.

  • Characteristics

    1. Its porous design is able to form an ecological corridor along the water.
    2. Durable and high resistance to erosion.
    3. Providing habitat for aquatics and space for vegetation.
    4. The artistic design is able to shape and enhance the landscape.

Ecological TankCONSTRUCTION PROCESS

  • Foundation Levelling

    Clean the ground surface of the site. And then establish the necessary level lines.

  • Backfill Separation

    Lay ACETex® on the existing slope as shown in the design drawing to prevent loss of backfill soil.

  • Tank Arrangement

    Arrange ecological tanks in accordance with the design drawing.

  • Tank Filling

    Fill the ecological tanks below water level with cobbles to form habitats; fill the ecological tanks above water level with gravel or soil (in soil bag) for the growth of vegetation.

  • ACETex® Wrap-around

    Wrap the laid ACETex® around the backfill behind the ecological tanks for separation as shown on the design drawing.

  • Gap Filling

    Fill the top and gap around the tanks with soil or fine gravel and compact layer-by-layer.

  • Shore Protection of Ecological Tank Completed

Ecological TankDemonstrative Case

Riverbank Reinforcement, Miaoli, Taiwan

During the extremely heavy rainy days, the residential housings and the farmlands near the river in Miaoli were threatened by impending flood due to the soil loss in the unprotected riverbanks. Hence, resulted in sludge in the channel, reduction of river cross section and flood. To solve this problem, ecological tanks were used to reinforce the banks. First the sludge was being cleaned and filled into the hollow parts of the tanks. Ecological tanks were stacked up to the height of 1.5 meter. The riverbanks are now well reinforced and the soil filled hollow parts of the tanks are vegetated beautifully. The residence and crop are no longer threaten by the flood.
